Eye on the Reef
Everyone’s contribution is welcomed…
The Eye on the Reef monitoring and assessment program enables anyone who visits the Great Barrier Reef to contribute to its long-term protection by collecting valuable information about reef health, marine animals and incidents that helps to understand the bigger picture and inform how we manage the Reef.
Brought to you by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA), the Eye on the Reef app is one of the easiest ways to help manage the reef. By joining this citizen science movement, it allows you to record your sightings and lodge incidents, through which you can provide Marine Park managers and researches with up-to-date information that will help inform their management decisions and actions.

Anyone can help to play an active role in monitoring the environment.
One of the challenges of managing something like the Great Barrier Reef is its sheer size – over 2,300km in length and covering 344,400 square kilometres. That’s why marine managers encourage anyone visiting the reef – including you – to assist with reef monitoring through the Eye on the Reef monitoring program.
Anyone who journeys out on the water in the Whitsunday region can collect valuable information on reef health, the marine life you encounter, and any incidents that occur.
How can you help?
Simply get out and explore the Whitsundays and whilst you are doing so help collect data to monitor the reef, including coral health, marine life sightings, and incidents such as bleaching, disease or damage
