Community Litter Audit
Help us sort debris and reduce the flow of litter entering the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
Do you want to be involved in helping the environment and connecting with your local community?
Come along to the Whitsunday Community Litter Audit at Coral Sea Marina on Saturday, April 29th! There are two sessions available (or come along to both) from 9:00-11:00am or 1:00-3:00pm. Training, materials (incl. gloves), and snacks will be provided.
About the project: Healthy Rivers to Reef Partnership coordinated the installation of 15 stormwater gross pollutant traps (GPTs) in the Whitsunday region. Now it’s time to see what they’ve collected. Come along to this event to learn about local litter issues while helping to record the findings in the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) database. This data will be used to create source reduction plans with community groups and businesses in the region.
This project has received funding support from the Queensland Government’s Community Sustainability Action grant program. It being delivered by Healthy Rivers to Reef Partnership, in collaboration ReefClean, Tangaroa Blue Foundation, Reef Trust, Coral Sea Marina and Whitsunday Regional Council.
